PETITION TO DOMINION GAS TO CEASE PLANS TO DRILL
OIL AND GAS WELLS ON
LA PAIX HERB FARM

Scroll Down to see Some Comments Made by Petition Signers

 To Dominion Gas:

We, the undersigned, ask you to end plans for drilling further gas wells on La Paix Herb Farm, 3052 Crooked Run Rd., Alum Bridge, W.V. 26321 (Lewis County).   La Paix Herb Farm epitomizes the careful stewardship of the land.  It is the last land in the hollow of Crooked Run not timbered in the past few years.  The beautiful gardens, woods and ambiance of La Paix have been enjoyed by hundreds of visitors and friends over the last fourteen years it has been open to the public as a business which:  1.  emphasizes organic gardening, 2.  environmental integrity, 3.  holds tours, workshops and Fairs to bring these concepts to visitors from all over the state and country.  It has become a place to bring those who have crisis in their lives and wish to renew their spirit.

La Paix Herb Farm (the historic May Kraus Farm) has been approved as eligible by the West Virginia Division of Culture & History for nomination for the National Register of Historic Places and is fully expected to be officially included in the near future.

Placing gas wells in the back of the property and roads encircling La Paix defeats its very purpose and meaning to hundreds of people.  In addition, because of the steep and rocky terrain and numerous creeks surrounding the back of the property, any damage to this fragile eco-system could result in landslides and flooding of many farms on Crooked Run.   Please end these plans now.

If you are seeing this petition on the website, just email me with your name and contact information and state that you agree with the petition.  If you would like to make further comments  on Dominion Gas Company’s plan to drill La Paix Herb Farm, please add them to your email to me.

Some Comments made by Petition signers

Dear Myra,

Please add my name to your petition to preserve La Paix Herb Farm, and
protect it from the ravages of drilling for oil and gas.

It appears the greediness of oil and gas producers is rampaging with prices
they'll get for the oil and gas at an all-time high.  Everywhere you look, a
new well is being drilled.  Lawmakers need to heed your cry as an
unprotected small business person against the greed of this huge
Corporation.

Many of us will stand with you for preserving the beauty, historical
significance, and all of your past years' hard work.  LaPaix Herb Farm is a
state-wide asset that you have graciously shared with so many.  I would hate
to see it lost to all.    Sincerely,    Donna E. Leaseburg, CPA

Myra, please add my name to the petition for La Paix.  As a relative of the orginial builders of the cabin and pioneer stewards of the land I feel that to allow this beautiful land to be destroyed to get what little gas is there would be a sin.

In addition the erosion is causing the quality of life to deteriorate for those living along Crooked Run.  Patricia Bailey Meyer, member of the Kraus & May family

hey myra,
i just wanted to let you know that i have been thinking about you and lapaix and hoping that you are doing well-you must be exhausted dealing with this
drilling disaster. i hope this summer's lavender fair will not be the last.  i would be so sad if i never get to see the beautiful fields of lavender, a peaceful feng shui respite, the wise labyrinth, or the garden bath tub again. please put my name on the petition (if it is not on there already) and you can add my mom and
sister also (connie and erin mulcahy). i pray for more lavender fairs. Kay W. former La Paix apprentice 2001.

Please add my name to the petition to Dominion Gas to desist from drilling wells on La Paix Herb Farm because of its potential danger to the environment in that area.  Paul R.

We have visited La Paix and found it to be uniquely beautiful; quiet and peaceful. It would be terrible if more gas wells, with their inevitable roads, noise and devastation, were permitted here.    Michael D

Just heard about drilling on your farm.  Would like to add my plea that your farm not be drilled or further drilled, but see that the meeting was yesterday. Please fill me in or send me to a place that can.  Are they shallow wells??  Mary B

I am on the OVEC e-mail list, because I learned of Jack Spadero's work in the Ohio Valley area, and decided to get involved.  Thus, I learned of your efforts to preserve La Paix Farm  As an archaeologist, I'm very interested in preserving many aspects of past culture.  Good luck!

LaPaix farm should be reserved for historic purposes. The utility company should be barred from further development.

Please stop the ravaging of our mountains.

Please add my name to the petition to save your herb farm.  The photos
are wonderful. It would be a tragedy to ruin such beauty by drilling.  Gawd,
will there never be an end to exploitation for profit in this state.  Here are
my credentials:   Kathryn S.

The website is beautiful. We will forward to our family and friends. What a tragedy for Dominion to ruin such a lovely place for nothing but greed

Please stop the drilling on La Paix.  Somethings in this life should remain sacred.Let the angels surround this place of Peace and keep it safe.
Blessings, Helen KG

The value of life in this so called America is fading fast. Fight the good fight. I support the petition.   Sandy B

Please add my name to the Petition to stop the drilling on La Paix.  This is a SIN!  This is sacred ground. We are focusing on "PEACE" for La Paix, which I believe is more powerful than this Greedy corporation.  Peace and Blessings!  Linda P

I oppose Dominion Gas' plans to drill on this farm. It threatens the essence
of a very innovative and successful small business that has brought health
and joy to many people.   Bonni M

"A place which should never be disturbed"  Donna P.  Hospice Worker

"A place of Peace.  A wonderful haven to be preserved and expanded for all God's creatures."  Teri L.  Master Gardener

I know you are living some difficult moments. You can add me to the petition with this comment (I am not sure of my English) :

“What is happening is part of one of the dramas of our times : big corporations seem to have a no-limit power on small producers and small business. That such an economic power can not be defeated by a counterpower such the State and the Law, whose mission is to protect ordinary people, or Civil Society, which tries to maintain human values in a dehumanized World, leads us to think that ethics is leaving Planet Earth for another one.”Best regards, Christophe Bouilet, Caen Memorial Peace Museum, Caen, France, Instructor, Transcend Peace University, Peace Museums
