The Supplicant (Red Oak Down at La Paix Dec. 2008) Honorable Mention at Sustainable Fair 2009 Juried Art Show Stonewall Resort, Roanoke WV.  This is a triplicate painted on smaller canvasses when I was too ill to paint the larger canvas this winter of 2009.  The two bottom canvasses are at right angles to the canvas of the roots of trunk so that the viewer sees the painting as if he/she was standing on the ground looking toward the fallen oak.  I believe nature is sentient.  Two months after its fall, the members of the Lewis County Concerned Citizens (against PATH - a huge transmission line) stood in front of the trunk which makes a bridge over the creek.  Leaning against the trunk, one can still feel the life surging back and forth in the fallen tree.  We are recycling it to make benches and tables, delineate woodland paths.  It is the least we can do for the mighty oak that has fallen.  Myra Bonhage-Hale, Steward of La Paix
