Preparing for the Lavender Fair 2004

Pavilions for vendors, demonstrators and workshops were constructed using recycled (we are sustainable!) satellite dishes.  Colors painted are roasted pepper, purple fruit and sunflower yellow - colors of Provence, France.  A more elaborate Japanese Tea House was constructed in 2003 using a large satellite dish. It  is located by the Feng Shui garden.
Judith Vojik, my apprentice in the year 2000, who graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2003 (Environmental Science major) took a break from her position as an observer on fishing boats in Alaska (U.S. Fish and Wildlife) to come help replace bridges (two), repair or replace benches (forty +), make tables (three) one Garden Gate and construct twelve Pavillions.  She is assisted by her friend, Dale Coyle, a WV Wesleyan College graduate in 2002.  They were wonderful workers and so great to be with - I shall miss them.  They left today to continue  their life's journey.

Judith and Dale adjust satellite dish on top of structure.  This Pavilion will house Denise Poole's collectables and the WV Environment Council booth.
In the meantime, I (the steward of La Paix) got down and dirty obsessively weeding, planting and generally re-landscaping the gardens.  There is still alot more weeding and planting and messing around to do - but I have new helpers coming a few days a week to assist.  This is a view of the Big Garden looking south east.  This is where most of the Vendors and Demonstrators will have their booths.  There are seven booths which can accomodate two vendors each here.  Other vendors will be under the grape arbor nearby.

This is a view of the Pavilions on the north side of the Big Garden.  The Grape Vine trellis area is underneath the large tree and accomodates four booths in the shade.  The success of my obsessive weeding can be seen in the foreground.  The list of Vendors is on the Lavender Fair page.
And lest we forget, weeding, planting and everything else goes on all over La Paix.  This is La Paix Herb Farm's farmhouse on 5-31-04.  Lavender plantings are on the left - and ready to bloom - hopefully they will wait until the Fair on June 19th and 20th.
