Your dowsing system can be utilized to assist you in determining particular information regarding gardening.  The primary purpose in using dowsing is to determine what is for your highest and best good, (or whatever similar phrase suits you).  Dowsing in conjunction with gardening will make it possible to truly co-create with the earth.
Dowsing can aid you in planning your garden by helping you in selecting a site that is in balance with the environment.  Locating the harmonious position and size of the garden and determining the position of certain plants within the garden can be done by dowsing for answers.  Your dowsing system may also be helpful in connecting you with and getting permission and guidance from the devas of the land and surrounding area your garden will be part of.  Your dowsing system can be very helpful in locating energy patterns.
Whatever dowsing tool works best for you is the one to use.  There is no right or wrong tool to use, however, different techniques may lend themselves to ease of use for certain types of garden related dowsing.
Examples are:
Pendulums and a pen are easy to use when map dowsing.  They are also handy when catalogue shopping for seeds and supplies.
Rods are easy to use when on site to locate boundaries, lines, intersections.
Deviceless dowsing and kinesiology are easy to use in the store when selecting seeds, bulbs, tools, books, fertilizers.

Echinacea (Cone Flower)

Monarda (Native Bee Balm)

GETTING STARTED

1.  Get some paper or a journal, and writing tools to write down your questions and answers.
2.  Find a nice spot to work on this - ground yourself.
3.  Get basic permission when you begin dowsing - Can I?  May I?  Is this the best time?  or whatever version works for you.
4.  Formulate your questions clearly, so that the answer you get is sound and accurate.  The information you get is only as good as the question you ask!
5.  Write down your results.
6.  Implement the garden plan you arrive at via dowsing.
